Literature Text

My name is Kaminari, but most people here call me Kazu or a jumble of numbers that make no sense to me, and it's supposed to stand for something. I don't have a last name because I don't have a family; I mean, besides the doctors. The doctors told me that the numbers are my model code, but I'm not so sure. Maybe they call me the numbers because they don't remember my name. I've never heard them say it before, except for Liesel, but she's not a doctor or anything special so she doesn't count.
Liesel's supposed to be my 'sister', only she's a different model and doesn't look like me. I have wavy white hair, and she's got straight black hair, I'm only five feet tall, she's two inches taller, and on and on. Her number's 1278 version two, and mine is a jumble, something like 138298776… and I'm the first version of my kind. I'm the newest model there's ever been, and I doubt there's ever going to be another one of me because I've been a failure so far.
When I Awoke, everything was fine. I saw Liesel for the first time, and she was beautiful. She was a few months older than I was, and she looked like she was about seven years old in the human aging system. We went everywhere together. We were inseparable. But then a few days after my Awaking, I had a seizure that put me in a coma for days. I had heard that Liesel was by my side the whole time; the doctors told me that my outcome had been looking pretty grim, but then Liesel finally cried and I woke up. I couldn't see anything anymore. I had gone blind.
My initial thought was that I couldn't see Liesel's bright purple eyes anymore when I should have seen them immediately. I miss those purple eyes; they shown in the light like amethyst and calmed every nerve in my system. She misses me seeing things too. Every so often Liesel tries to show me a picture she drew or a pretty object, but I can only turn my head to where her voice was and stare into nothing and ask her about it. I could hear her hang her head in sadness. I felt bad, because as her sister I was supposed to see everything she did, but now I can't even see colors. I see black. Sometimes, though, I see white. But that's only on the rare occasion that I experience more emotions than normal.
I see things in my dreams. I see my recharging station, Liesel, the doctors, the park by the facility. I see the flowers I used to grow, my stuffed teddy bear that I still sleep with every night, I see nephadroids walk through the fields by the playground with their families. The doctors don't believe that I see these in my dreams, but I do. If they'd just monitor my brain system patterns in my sleep, they'd see the readings go up tenfold.
I hear the door click and turn to it. The soft tmp-tmp-tmp of Doctor Suzume's shoes echo off the metal equipment. Dr. Suzume is one of the new doctors here. She doesn't know much about me, but I know enough about her to not like her much. She's wearing nurse's shoes today instead of the usual heels. She puts her clipboard down; the sound it makes tells me that she's got a lot of papers in it. Dr. Suzume takes one of the papers out, shakes it to make it flat to read, and turns to me. Her hair swishes.
"Hello, 1382987765, version one." She says politely, happily. "I wish I could have a shorter number than that. It's so tough to say every time I see you!" She laughs gaily and I hear her lips curve up. I don't smile back.
"I have a name, Doctor Suzume."
She shifts her weight uncomfortably. "Of course you do, dear." Her heartbeat quickens. I don't know what it is, but all the doctors get nervous around me. It's not like I'm dangerous. "Well, let's look at your charts today, the seventh of August." Her pen clicks, and the tip of it goes in her mouth to chew on it. Disgusting. "Your brain waves are normal. You should take a look at these with me, you know. The joints are working, so no sign of arthritis. Do your hands feel alright? Anyways, you are eliminating normally, breathing and eating normally too. Speaking seems to be a bit of a problem, but that's okay. Are you looking at the charts with me?" I could hear her tongue click in disapproval.
I glared at her coldly. "I'm blind."
She sucked in a breath. Trust the other doctors to not tell the newbie about the models. "Oh. I'm sorry, Model 1382987765, version one. I didn't realize that." Oh my God. Why couldn't she just shut up and leave me alone? I wished Liesel were with me. "Well, everything seems okay, so I'll leave now." She turned on her heel and headed towards the door, where the air from the hallway was blowing in. I suppressed a whoop of joy.
"Oh, and might I get your name?" She stopped at the doorknob. I brightened, even though I didn't want her to talk anymore.
"M-my name?" I stammered. "I'm Kaminari. But, but, others call me Kazu." Which was part of the truth; only Liesel called me Kazu. I close my eyes and don't open them until she leaves, which left me to brood over how inconsiderate she was up until the last seconds. I softened at the thought of her being different from the other doctors. She asked me my name. My name. No one asked me personal questions like that!
My clock buzzed annoyingly. I hit the button to play the messages. Doctor Ingham's annoying voice spoke through robotically.
"Time to take your medicine, Model 1382987765. Take the pill shaped like a triangle and use the glass provided." A tray sprang up through the floor, and the water swished uncertainly. I gulped the pill down and my head hit the pillow instantly.
I've developed a liking towards two characters I drew the other day and started writing a story. If it keeps going (I can't promise this), it'll update in my Scraps. Pictures of Kazu and Liesel will be coming soon, hopefully! :woohoo:

I rarely read literature on here so I don't know what made me read this today, but I'm really glad I did. It was fantastic - the characters are brilliant and the place was described so I could imagine I was almost there. I'd love to read more of this and see pictures of the characters. I really loved this piece.
